Insert windows in a Land Cruiser

The video is showing how to insert windows in a Land Cruiser hardtop. Same technique can be used on all older cars. Here I am working on the disassembled side panels on my own. It is the same way when you work on the car, but you will need a helper standing on the outside and pressing the windows in.

INSTALLATION OF WINDSHIELD MOULDING – LC80

The chrome type moulding you find on front and rear windshield on a 80 is difficult to insert. But it is important since it helps pressing the rubber against glass and body.

First I smeared non-hardening silicone grease into the groove where the lock strip sits to make the rubber softer. Soapy water can also be used, but I prefer silicone as it permanently soften the rubber.
Then I start entering the strip in one of the corners. This is important. If you start in the free end you will probably not have the corner aligned when you get there, and have to start all over again.

Use a rather small screwdriver

Then use a small screwdriver to lift the inner part of the rubber over the strip. The outer part is stiffer. Or drag the screwdriver in a wobbly way sideways. That is faster, but do not work all places. Press the strip inwards with your other hand, and use the screwdriver to push the strip inwards after you have lifted the rubber. That will prevent the rubber from slip under the strip again.
And it takes a bit time…

There are tools for doing this- “windshield lock strip tool”, but Toyota FSM says use a screwdriver.
